About the Author

Jennifer Hargreaves is retired from full-time university work and is now a freelance writer/consultant. She was an early pioneer of sport sociology specializing in gender issues, the role of women in sport and the politics of the body. Jennifer has published prolifically, with translations into several different languages; has given addresses all over the world; and has worked as a guest professor in Germany, Hong Kong and Japan.

Eric Anderson is a sociologist and a Professor of Sport, Masculinities and Sexualities at the University of Winchester, UK. His research shows an increasingly positive relationship between gay athletes and sport, as well as a growing movement of heterosexual masculinities becoming softer and more inclusive. Professor Anderson has published twelve books, including Sport, Theory and Social Problems, Inclusive Masculinity and Sport, Masculinities and Sexualities, all with Routledge.

Through real-world case studies, the book illustrates the fundamental concepts and technologies used in the design and implementation of software product lines.

This book describes a new UML-based software design method for product lines called PLUS (Product Line UML-based Software engineering). PLUS provides a set of concepts and techniques to extend UML-based design methods and processes for single systems in a new dimension to address software product lines. Using PLUS, the objective is to explicitly model the commonality and variability in a software product line.

Hassan Gomaa explores how each of the UML modeling views—use case, static, state machine, and interaction modeling—can be extended to address software product families. He also discusses how software architectural patterns can be used to develop a reusable component-based architecture for a product line and how to express this architecture as a UML platform-independent model that can then be mapped to a platform-specific model.

About the Author

Hassan Gomaa, Professor of Software Engineering at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, is an internationally acknowledged authority on the software design of distributed and real-time systems. Hassan's career in software engineering spans both industry and academia, and he develops concurrent, distributed, and real-time applications in industry; designs software development methods and applies them to real-world problems; and teaches short courses to professional software engineers around the world. He has a B.Sc. in electrical engineering from University College, London, and a Ph.D. in computer science from Imperial College, London.

Good Resource for Architecting Software Product Lines

This book brings together a good range of concepts for understanding software product lines and provides an organized method for developing product lines using object-oriented techniques with the UML. The text also includes a good selection of examples and case studies to illustrate the product line approach. I found this book to be well-balanced with respect to the needs of both experienced and novice software engineers.

Excellent UML for PLE Coverage

This book is great for the UML syntax. The author does a great job of putting together a UML profile for Product Line Engineering modeling, and has great examples on how to use it.

But if you decide to read it beware that it excludes many of the Architectural practices that are found in the other resources. It does not use Attribute Driven Design, Cost-Benefit Analysis, or Architectural Tradeoff Analysis.

If you get it, keep that in mind. It is only good for an artifact creation reference, not the process behind arriving at the artifacts.

I would definitely recommend it for the UML profile it has and the examples the author provides.

UML for software products, maybe lines too?

It's still unclear to me how the software product lines in this book are distinguished simply from the products themselves. There is more emphasis on reuse and this appears to be the key distinguishing characteristic. But even with the book just focusing on a singly product this is a valuable work showing the use of techniques of Object Oriented Analysis and Design using UML. The book is a solid piece of work (both physically and in content), though there is a bias towards illustrations as opposed to explanatory text. Software architects should evaluate the book in person. Front line software engineers probably won't find much they can apply to their work.

Awesome and helpful

This is a great book for artists and covers many different aspects of drawing male characters. Not only does it go over basic anatomy (and more detailed anatomy) it goes over many stances, poses, and even goes over clothing options. The book also goes over the many positions of hands and feet (which is great if you're like me and can't draw either). This is designed for an artist who is somewhat familiar with drawing the human figure but you certainly don't have to be an expert.

Reference Guide for Manga

This book is a great reference for male anatomy; unfortunately being pretty much the ONLY one in the series based on men, this is great for learning poses, gestures, and how clothes overlay the body. Not so terrific for ideas, like clothing or characters. I recommend it for those who are having issues with how the male body is formatted (I use it as a reference in that way)

Very Helpful Book

Like most people I have an easy time drawing girls, but a REALLY hard time with the guys! This books goes step by step explaining how the male body should be drawn, then moves on to clothing the character, and finally only the features of men. It's really helpful, the shipping is quick, and now I find drawing men really fun and easy because of this book! I really suggest you buy it! Also because it's a really good deal on Amazon. It's too expensive elsewhere =] Enjoy!

Not the best for beginning nursing research classes

I'm sure this is a good resource for some nursing research classes, but as a required text for my nursing research class, it did not provide the information I needed to complete assignments. This is more a school issue rather than a book issue. There are other nursing research books out there that explain things in a manner which is easier for the novice nurse researcher to interpret. Because I needed to find other sources which explained things in a manner that was easier to interpret I'm giving the book three stars. It has lots of information, but if you are new to nursing research it doesn't use language which is effective at helping the learner grasp concepts easily.

Bought this text as optional, additional reference to use in studying for my doctoral comps exam and found it to be the absolutely most useful text of all of my books, including those required in several of my classes! It is comprehensive, well-designed, and avoids frivolous detail. I would recommend it to all graduate nursing students without reservation.
