Engwicht contends we need to rethink our ideas of place and live in cities in less isolated ways. He encourages us to get back in touch with our neighborhoods--to walk and bicycle through them, find their hubs, talk with people, and alter streetlife so that the immediate neighborhood meets more human needs. He encourages less reliance on the car, which he sees as the major factor in our isolation and disconnectedness from community. He wants to create the "Eco-City," which will encompass a more "organic" way of life. Combined with data on outcomes, this policy information enables analysis of, and creates new insights into, mergers, merger policies, and the effectiveness of remedies in preventing anticompetitive outcomes.

After an overview of mergers, merger policy, and a common approach to merger analysis, Kwoka offers a detailed analysis of the studied mergers, relevant policies, and chosen remedies. Kwoka finds, first and foremost, that most of the studied mergers resulted in competitive harm, usually in the form of higher product prices but also with respect to various non-price outcomes. Joseph D. Bronzino is the founder and president of the Biomedical Engineering Alliance and Consortium (BEACON) in Hartford, Connecticut. He earned a PhD in electrical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts. Dr. Bronzino has received the Millennium Award from IEEE/EMBS and the Goddard Award from Worcester Polytechnic Institute for Professional Achievement. He is the author of more than 200 articles and 11 books.

Donald R. Peterson is a professor of engineering and dean of the College of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Nursing at Texas A&M University–Texarkana. He earned a PhD in biomedical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts. Dr. Peterson’s recent research focuses on measuring and modeling human, organ, and/or cell performance, including exposures to various physical stimuli and the subsequent biological responses. Dr. Peterson has published more than 50 journal articles and 12 reference books.

The text has been written with the conviction that geometrical explana­ tions are essential for a full understanding of the material and that however simple a matrix proof might seem, a geometric proof is almost certainly more profitable. Further, wherever possible, results should be stated in a form that is invariant under conjugation, thus making the intrinsic nature of the result more apparent. Despite the fact that the subject matter is concerned with groups of isometries of hyperbolic geometry, many publications rely on Euclidean estimates and geometry. However, the recent developments have again emphasized the need for hyperbolic geometry, and I have included a comprehensive chapter on analytical (not axiomatic) hyperbolic geometry. It is hoped that this chapter will serve as a "dictionary" offormulae in plane hyperbolic geometry and as such will be of interest and use in its own right.

About the Author

Patrick McGuire has been in the material handling industry for more than 20 years. He has a BS degree in computer integrated manufacturing systems and his professional engineering license for industrial engineering. He started with a very small conveyor manufacturer in upstate New York, J & S Conveyors, where he was the Engineering Manager. They designed and built a wide variety of conveyors. They manufactured tabletop chain conveyors, flat belt conveyors, heavy unit load conveyors, and troughed belt conveyors.

After J & S, he went to work for Rapistan, the world’s largest manufacturer of material handling systems. Rapistan has since been bought by Siemens AG. Rapistan specialized in unit handling, primarily distribution systems. McGuire was involved with the office that also specialized in-process manufacturing systems. They built one-of-a-kind conveyors and systems for giants such as Corning, Kodak, Xerox, General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler. He worked as a senior systems engineer and a project manager.

After 10 years of custom product and system design, he took a position with the products group, where he worked on such things as the high-speed divert for airport baggage and then became the product manager for the heavy unit load product line. In that position McGuire led a group of engineers in designing, documenting, and selling a full line of pallet handling conveyors. He has since worked as the Director of Product Engineering for American Ironhorse Motorcycles, and the Director of Manufacturing and Technology for Transnorm System, a specialty conveyor manufacturer.

Currently, McGuire is the Manager of Engineering Services for Glidepath, which is leading a movement of business and engineering systems integration and automation. As a member of CEMA, he co-authored or edited several chapters of the new CEMA Application Guide for Unit Handling Conveyors.

A must read for any beginner or seasoned Conveyor engineer

I recently picked up this book through Amazon.
Being in the airport conveyor field, recently switching over to warehousing style conveyors, I needed to familiarize myself with the many different styles of conveyors outside their airport field. Whether you're just starting out or a seasoned professional, it's an invaluable resource.
For conveyor companies that may hire people with little experience or fresh out of school, it's a must have for your engineering library so your new employees can familiarize themselves with various conveyors, their application, and Integration.
